The Mifflin-Juniata Regional Services Corporation (MJRSC) is seeking a compassionate, organized, and motivated Protective Services Care Manager to join our Area Agency on Aging team. This position plays a critical role in protecting vulnerable older adults by investigating reports of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment while coordinating services that promote safety, independence, and well-being.
The ideal candidate possesses strong assessment, investigative, communication, and documentation skills and is committed to advocating for older adults through a person-centered approach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive and investigate reports of suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment involving older adults.
- Conduct comprehensive investigations in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Aging (PDA) regulations and agency policies.
- Interview consumers, family members, caregivers, neighbors, medical providers, and other collateral contacts to gather relevant information.
- Complete comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care plans designed to reduce identified risks.
- Coordinate, arrange, and monitor services to ensure consumer safety and ongoing support.
- Maintain ongoing care management responsibilities for assigned Protective Services cases.
- Prepare timely, accurate, and detailed documentation while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Ensure all work meets required timelines and quality standards established by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and agency policies.
- Recommend legal interventions when necessary, including guardianships, involuntary interventions, and community commitments.
- Prepare reports and testify in court proceedings as required.
- Communicate professionally with consumers, families, physicians, attorneys, service providers, law enforcement, hospitals, and community partners.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with individuals involved in Protective Services investigations.
- Manage an active caseload while effectively prioritizing competing responsibilities.
- Participate in regular supervision, Protective Services staff meetings, and case reviews.
- Participate in the Protective Services on-call rotation.
- Attend required trainings, professional development opportunities, and staff meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, Gerontology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field.
- Experience in case management, adult protective services, social services, healthcare, behavioral health, or related human services preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered in accordance with agency and Pennsylvania Department of Aging requirements.

- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Ability to build rapport with older adults and individuals experiencing crisis.
- Critical thinking and sound professional judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with electronic documentation and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for local travel.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks and clearances.
- Ability to perform field visits in homes, healthcare facilities, and community settings.
- Participation in an after-hours on-call rotation is required.
