The middle school guidance counselor is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a systematic school-wide counseling program. Proactive leadership by the counselor in the development of the counseling program will target to support students academically, socially, and emotionally to promote a foundation for success and preparation for high school.
Requirement:
- Develop and provide interventions as necessary that promote academic achievement
- Develop a plan for carrying out and teaching the IDOE School Counseling Competencies for Students
- Collaborate with school staff, administration, students, parents, and community members in implementing a school-wide counseling program
- Provide counseling support to individuals or small groups of students
- Work as a teammate with the existing Crawfordsville MS school counselor
- Assist students, parents, and families in seeking further resources when mental health needs are recognized that go beyond those of the school counselor
- Collaborate with teachers and other school staff in sharing strategies that support student achievement
- Utilize data to evaluate and reflect on the school-wide counseling program and make program adjustments as necessary
- Utilize data to identify student needs and develop strategies and interventions that support students in these areas of need
- Support students in the development of academic, career, personal, and social/emotional goals
- Assist in the development and integration of MTSS and 504 plans
- Assist with student attendance
- Demonstrate effective communication to all stakeholders
- Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards set forth by both the school district and the school counseling profession
- Supervise students in a variety of settings
- Other duties as assigned
Certification Requirements:
School Counseling License or Enrolled in Program with Ability to Obtain License
