Position Title: Paraprofessional

Position Summary
Harbor School is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Paraprofessional to support students with special needs in a classroom setting. The Paraprofessional works under the supervision of the classroom teacher and administration to assist students in achieving their educational, social, behavioral, communication, and functional goals while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing educational programs and daily lesson activities.
- Provide individual and small-group instructional support to students as directed by the teacher.
- Support students with academic, social, communication, behavioral, and daily living skills.
- Assist with behavior management strategies and behavior intervention plans as directed by the educational team.
- Help maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Support students during transitions, community-based instruction, vocational activities, specials, and school events.
- Assist students with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, dressing, and hygiene when necessary.
- Implement teacher-directed instructional activities and reinforce learning objectives.
- Collect and record student data as requested by the teacher and related service providers.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, nurses, and other staff members to support student success.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Assist with classroom preparation, organization of materials, and maintenance of instructional resources.
- Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties.
- Participate in professional development and required trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications
- Must have: 60 credits or Para Pro test
- Experience working with children, particularly students with special needs, preferred.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, patience, and flexibility in a dynamic school environment.
- Ability to lift, transfer, and physically assist students when necessary.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications and trainings, including CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), if required.
