Travel-Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Operating Room
Location: Binghamton, NY 13903
Duration: 13 weeks with possible extension
Schedule: 3 × 12-hour day shifts | 36 hours/week
Note: Days may vary based on the needs of the unit
Certification: BLS – AHA; NBSTA or NCCT required
Job Responsibilities
- Perform surgical scrub duties while following infection control policies and procedures.
- Maintain strict sterile technique before and during surgical procedures.
- Assist surgeons with gowning, gloving, draping, instrumentation, sutures, and surgical equipment.
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and maintain an organized, efficient operative field.
- Perform accurate sponge, needle, tape, dissector, and instrument counts.
- Prepare operating rooms, supplies, and equipment according to preference cards.
- Identify and address equipment or supply issues before procedures.
- Handle and care for surgical instruments and supplies appropriately after each case.
- Maintain a safe surgical environment and identify potential equipment, chemical, and gas hazards.
- Assist with suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the direction of the surgeon.
- Properly handle and identify surgical specimens according to facility policy.
- Assist with efficient OR turnover between cases.
- Participate in rotating call coverage.
- Support and assist other OR staff as needed and serve as a resource for new personnel.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Recent 1 year of OR experience required.
- Current BLS certification through AHA.
- NBSTA or NCCT certification required.
- Previous Operating Room/Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and infection control practices.
- Ability to work rotating call and flexible days based on unit needs.
