Position Summary
The Associate Professional (AP) is responsible for providing direct support, supervision, guidance, and care to individuals receiving services in a residential setting. The Associate Professional will help ensure residents receive safe, person-centered, consistent, and professional services while promoting independence, dignity, skill development, and overall well-being.
This position requires an individual who is dependable, compassionate, professional, able to work independently, and capable of responding appropriately to behavioral, medical, and safety concerns.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Previous experience working in a residential, behavioral health, mental health, developmental disability, human services, social services, or similar setting.
- Experience providing direct care and/or support to individuals with behavioral or developmental needs is strongly preferred.
- Must be available to work Monday through Friday and every other weekend from 3:00 PM–11:00 PM.
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to maintain accurate and timely documentation.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, patience, and reliability.
- Must be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Must successfully complete all required background checks, screenings, and employment requirements.
- Must maintain all required training and certifications for the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Associate Professional will:
- Provide direct supervision and support to residents during the assigned shift.
- Assist residents with daily routines, activities, and independent living skills.
- Promote a safe, structured, therapeutic, and supportive residential environment.
- Implement residents’ individualized service, treatment, and/or behavior support plans as directed.
- Observe residents for changes in behavior, mood, physical condition, or overall functioning and promptly report concerns.
- Provide appropriate behavioral support and utilize approved de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Encourage residents to participate in therapeutic, recreational, educational, and community-based activities.
- Assist residents with developing communication, social, self-care, and daily living skills.
- Complete progress notes, shift documentation, incident reports, medication-related documentation, and other required records accurately and on time.
- Communicate significant information to supervisors and incoming staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Follow medication administration procedures when trained and authorized to do so.
- Maintain awareness of residents’ whereabouts and provide appropriate supervision at all times.
- Assist with transportation to appointments, activities, school, community outings, or other approved destinations as assigned.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized residential environment.
- Follow emergency, incident reporting, health and safety, and infection-control procedures.
- Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, injuries, medication errors, safety concerns, or other reportable incidents according to policy.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, supervision, and other required professional development activities.
- Work cooperatively with supervisors, Qualified Professionals, healthcare providers, families/guardians, and other members of the treatment team.
- Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Perform other duties reasonably assigned by management.
Professional Expectations
The Associate Professional is expected to report to work on time and remain for the entire scheduled shift. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Employees must maintain professional boundaries with residents, coworkers, families, and outside providers and must follow all organizational policies and procedures. Sleeping while on duty, leaving residents unsupervised, falsifying documentation, inappropriate use of personal phones, or failing to follow required safety procedures may result in disciplinary action.
Required Schedule
The regular shift for this position is:
Monday–Friday: 3:00 PM–11:00 PM
Every Other Weekend: When needed.
Applicants must have the availability and reliability necessary to consistently work this schedule, including assigned weekends and applicable holidays.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to perform the essential duties of the position, which may include standing, walking, sitting, bending, assisting residents with daily activities, responding quickly during emergencies, and performing other physical duties associated with providing residential services, with or without reasonable accommodation.
