American Traveler is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with strong OR experience across ortho, spine, and robotics for a 12-hour night shift position at a Level III Trauma Center in Puyallup, WA.

Hospital-based OR setting at a 375-bed Level III Trauma Center in Puyallup, WA
-
12 operating rooms (11 active daily, plus 1 hybrid OR), handling 40–50 cases per day
-
Patient population includes adult ortho, spine, total joints, sports medicine, robotics (Da Vinci), ENT (thyroid), general surgery, GYN, vascular (AV fistula, fem-pops), urology, and podiatry, with minimal pediatric cases (typically ENT)

No open heart, transplant, or high-level neuro procedures (e.g., EVDs)

12-hour night shifts (2230–0700) with possible weekends based on department needs
-
On-call required: 4–6 call shifts per 6-week schedule period, including potential nights and weekends, with a 30-minute response time required (no sleep rooms on-site)

Weekend shifts may also be assigned as working shifts (not just call) based on staffing needs

EMR system is Epic; Alaris and Pyxis also used

Floating may be required to inpatient areas (MS, ICU, PCU, ED Holding, PACU, ED) during low census; ORT travelers will not take patient assignments, administer medications, or work outside their scope of practice — duties limited to tasks such as vital signs, stocking, sitter roles, and general support

Minimum 2 years of acute/inpatient OR experience required

Strong hands-on experience in ortho, total joints, sports medicine, spine, and robotic surgery (Da Vinci) required

CST certification preferred but not required in Washington State; WA State surgical technologist registration is required

BLS certification required

License required if applicable

First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

At least one supervisor-level reference (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, or above) required for consideration; a second reference will be needed prior to start

Candidates must have worked the shift type (nights) they are being considered for

Prior hospital experience must be comparable to this setting

Scrub in on OR cases across a broad range of adult surgical specialties, with a focus on ortho, spine, total joints, and robotic procedures
-
Robotic experience with Da Vinci XI or Robotic Mazer is preferred

COVID vaccination is required at this facility
-
Orientation includes Day 1 new employee orientation and access setup, with Epic training on Thursday; unit orientation for the remainder of the first week
-
Shift start time may vary week to week based on department needs but is not expected to change on a daily basis; day shift hours are 1030–2300
-
Up to 5 days of RTO may be approved; additional RTO requests require nurse manager approval, and missed days may need to be made up at the end of the contract

Scrubs are provided by the facility

Personal phones are not permitted in the unit
