Position Summary:
The mold technician is responsible for installing, setting up, and troubleshooting molds used in injection molding machines to ensure efficient and high-quality production. This role works closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams to meet manufacturing targets while ensuring safety and quality standards are maintained.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Setup molds, including water lines, hot runners, and auxillary equipment.
· Perform mold start-ups and verify parts meet quality specifications.
· Install, remove, and change molds in injection molding machine according to production schedules.
· Troubleshoot molding issues such as defects, short shots, flashing, and warping.
· Elevates and analyses issues that cause set ups to take longer than required.
· Restarts stopped machines and makes recommendations for process improvements.
· Maintains and performs routine repairs to production machinery as appropriate and needed.
· Collaborate with maintenance for mold repairs and preventative maintenance activities.
· Conduct routine inspections to ensure molds and equipment are operating safely and efficiently.
· Maintains high quality standards per TS 169949 and ISO 14001 requirements.
· Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and clutter- free work area.
· Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce scrap.
Required Competencies, Skills and Experience
· Working knowledge of the injection molding process in the plastics industry including machine set-up, operation, and maintenance and repair is required.
· Attention to details and good analytical, organizations, and planning skills required.
· Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education and Job Experience
· High School Diploma or Ged required; technical certification preferred.
· Minimum of three years performing injection molding machine operations.
· Strong understanding of mold setup and injection molding processes.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
· Experience with overhead cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
· Pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 55lbs; exposure to noise levels up to 85 decibels; some exposure to lubricants and machine cleaning solvents.
· Prolonged periods of standing.
· Job duties may require climbing, stooping, or crawling while carrying equipment.
