POSITION: 5th-12th Grade Choir Teacher
LOCATION: Milan Middle School/Milan High School
STARTING DATE: August 2026

Demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to coordinate concerts, performances, and other program activities.

Are committed to inclusive practices and supporting the success of all learners by recognizing and valuing the diverse backgrounds of students and families.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate choir instruction for students in grades 5–12.

Teach vocal technique, music literacy, ensemble skills, performance practices, and appreciation of diverse musical styles and traditions.

Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom and rehearsal environment that supports students with varying levels of experience and ability.

Direct middle school and high school choirs and prepare students for concerts, festivals, and other school or community performances.

Coordinate performances, including scheduling, communication, transportation needs, programs, equipment, and other logistical details.

Build continuity across the 5th–12th grade choir program to support skill development, student participation, and long-term program growth.

Participate in staff meetings, professional learning, conferences, and other responsibilities associated with teaching in both buildings.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in music education or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Music Education (JQ or JX) endorsement, or eligibility to obtain the appropriate certification.

Experience teaching vocal music and directing choral ensembles at the middle and/or high school level preferred.

Piano or other accompaniment skills preferred.

Experience planning concerts, festivals, and other student performances preferred.
