Job Summary
The Fabricator / Welder is responsible for the precision fabrication and welding of both large structural weldments and smaller detailed components used in custom-built industrial machinery. This role requires strong proficiency in MIG and TIG welding, the ability to work from detailed engineering drawings, and a high level of craftsmanship.
This position also plays a key role in supporting manufacturability by providing feedback on engineering drawings and mentoring less experienced fabricators and welders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform MIG and TIG welding on aluminum, stainless, and mild steel components.
- Fabricate and assemble large machine frames, structural weldments, and smaller precision components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical documentation.
- Provide feedback to engineering on print design from a manufacturability standpoint.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment including saws, grinders, shears, press brakes and drill presses.
- Perform layout, measuring, cutting, and fit-up with high accuracy.
- Ensure weld quality meets structural and visual standards.
- Inspect completed work for dimensional accuracy.
- Troubleshoot fit-up and fabrication challenges.
- Train and mentor junior fabricators and welders.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience
- 5+ years of professional welding and fabrication experience.
- Strong proficiency in MIG and TIG welding.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Experience with large weldments and precision fabrication.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Trade school education or welding certification.
- Experience in machine building.
- Basic machining knowledge.
Communication Skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and engineers.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to apply shop math and tolerances.
- Understanding of geometry for fabrication.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve fabrication problems and interpret instructions.
Physical Demands
- Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
- Frequent use of hands for welding, grinding, and operating fabrication equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push/pull heavy materials.
- Work may be performed in confined spaces or at heights.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, close vision, and attention to detail.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing floor environment with welding operations.
- Exposure to heat, sparks, fumes and noise.
- PPE required at all times.
