Summary:
The Physical Therapist Assistant has the responsibility to provide treatment to patients as prescribed by the Physical Therapist The PTA should carry out the plan of treatment established by the Physical Therapist, modifying and adjusting the treatment plan upon instruction from the Physical Therapist. The PTA works in conjunction with other team professionals, patients and their families to provide patient care and education as well as participates in in-services programs.
The PTA should have the ability to provide services to pediatrics, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients; must be able to assess and interpret data about patient’s age-specific needs and provide appropriate care to patient group.
The PTA will also carry out other departmental duties as assigned. The PTA must have the ability to work cooperatively with physicians, other staff members, patients and their families with dignity, courtesy, and respect. The PTA must show initiative and good judgment, be outgoing and flexible to adjust to all possible situations and have flexibility in hours to meet the needs of HomeCare and Hospice patients and to participate in weekend rotations as needed. The PTA must pay close attention to detail and provide superior levels of care. The PTA should be committed to continuing education, upgrading his/her skills, and be willing to cross train in other areas as necessary.
Requirements:
Must be a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program. Experience beyond graduation is desirable but not required. Must be competent in delivery of physical therapy treatment under the direction of the RPT. Must have knowledge of theory, techniques and practices of the Physical Therapy profession as well as of the use, care and maintenance of professional therapy equipment. Must successfully complete agency orientation. Must have dependable transportation. Must carry current personal collision and liability insurance on any vehicle driven. Must maintain current driver’s license in the appropriate state.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid and active Physical Therapist Assistant licensure in appropriate state. Valid and active membership in the American Physica Therapy Association is preferred BLS required
