Bay Area Bright Minds runs in-person enrichment at Peninsula schools. We are hiring a Part-Time Math Enrichment Teacher for Origami + Geometry Lab, our screen-free math enrichment class for grades 1 to 6, at campuses in Palo Alto and Los Altos.
Schedule: Monday through Friday afternoons, after 2:00 PM. Same day and time every week.
Hours: 1 to 10 per week.
Pay: $40 to $60 per hour.
Start date: Mid-September 2026.
Duration: One term minimum, roughly September through December.
THE CLASS YOU WOULD TEACH
Origami + Geometry Lab is screen-free math enrichment for grades 1 to 6. Across 8 to 12 weekly one-hour sessions, students fold paper into finished geometric forms, and every fold connects back to real curriculum: angles, symmetry, polygons, fractions, and spatial reasoning.
Every student finishes a piece every single session. That is the promise we make to families, and it takes an instructor who can keep 1st graders and 6th graders both moving, and who has the patience to re-teach a fold four different ways.
We provide all paper, instruction sheets, and materials. The class uses no tech and no Wi-Fi.
WHAT YOU WOULD DO
Lead one hour-long Origami + Geometry class per week, on site, with the same group of students all term
Teach from our written curriculum, so you are not writing lesson plans on Sunday night
Make the math explicit by naming the angles, the symmetry, and the fractions as students fold them
Get every student to a finished piece every session, including the ones who are struggling
Arrive early, set up, and run a calm, focused room
WHAT WE REQUIRE
Prior experience teaching or instructing children in grades 1 through 6. Classroom, camp, tutoring center, coaching, and enrichment all count. This one is not flexible. We do not train people on how to teach.
You like working with elementary-age kids, including the younger ones. Grades 1 and 2 need a different kind of patience than grade 6.
Strong fine-motor precision and comfort with elementary math vocabulary. Origami experience helps but is not required, since we teach you the folds.
Consistent weekday afternoon availability after 2:00 PM
Reliable transportation to Palo Alto and Los Altos campuses
Age 20 or older, able to clear a Live Scan background check and TB clearance
A teaching credential is welcome but not required.
ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY
Please read this section before you apply.
A school gives us a room and a time slot, and families rearrange their week around it. When an instructor is late, the class starts late in front of a principal. When an instructor cancels, we are calling a room full of families that same afternoon, and that is how school partnerships end.
The standard is simple:
You are on site 15 minutes before class starts, every week.
You do not cancel. If a true emergency comes up, tell us right away and we will cover it. But this should happen once, ever, not once a term.
One full term minimum, same day and time throughout.
We would rather hire someone with four years of tutoring and perfect attendance than someone with a stronger resume who might miss two Thursdays.
WHO TENDS TO DO WELL HERE
Working educators who want steady supplemental hours outside contract time
Credentialed elementary teachers between contracts, or recently retired from a district
Graduate students who are settled in the Bay Area for the next few years
Parents returning to work who want hours that fit a school schedule
Second-career professionals who are moving into education on purpose
WHAT WE OFFER
$40 to 60 per hour
A fixed weekly slot, set before the term starts, that you can build your quarter around
Curriculum and all materials provided
Small groups, and a class that does not come with a classroom management crisis built in
Growth into lead instructor and curriculum work as we add campuses
