Mirror Image Metal Finishing is looking for a welder that can head the welding department in a growing business. This person would work closely with the owner and foreman on welding projects including assisting in quoting time on projects and communicating needs in the welding area. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential. Most of the welding will go through a polishing process, so the welder must be able to lay consistent weld beads that make polishing easier. Responsibilities Read blueprints, drawings and weld symbols. Take or read measurements to plan layout and create procedures for welding prototypes or production parts. Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements. Set up components for welding according to specifications. Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces. Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead). Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps. Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety. Requirements and skills Proven experience as welder with stainless steel: sheet 16ga and up, structural angle, tube, c-channel. Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, Purge). Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc). Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.). Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program.
