Schedule:
- Monday–Friday: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Seasonal Saturdays (Spring, Summer, Fall): 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Must have reliable transportation and be flexible to travel between store locations as needed
- Part-time hours expected throughout our slower months, with the potential for full-time hours in spring & summer
Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Retail Floater to support multiple retail store locations. This role is responsible for filling in during callouts, vacations, and peak business demands, while maintaining consistent operations and customer service across locations.
During the busy season, this position may also assist with basic estimating duties. This is a growth-focused role, designed to prepare the right candidate to advance into a full-time Assistant Manager or Store Manager position.
Key Responsibilities
Multi-Store Support
- Travel between retail store locations to provide coverage as needed
- Step into daily operational duties to ensure consistent store performance
- Work independently when required, with minimal supervision
- Possible overnight stays when covering for a store for multiple days
Customer Service & Sales
- Provide exceptional customer service to homeowners and landscapers
- Handle customer questions, transactions, and minor complaints professionally
- Assist customers with product selection and loading
Loading & Equipment Operation
- Load customers with sod by hand and with a forklift or wheel loader
- Frequently lift and load landscaping materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Perform outdoor, physical work (expect to get dirty)
Store & Yard Maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized store and yard at each location
- Organize and care for sod and garden center products
- Assist with inventory organization and restocking
Estimating Support (Seasonal)
- Assist with basic sod estimates during peak seasons
- Visit customer residences to gather information and prepare preliminary estimates under management guidance
Operations & Inventory
- Support inventory tracking, ordering, and restocking
- Follow company procedures consistently across all locations
Growth & Advancement
This is a developmental position intended to build skills and operational knowledge. Successful candidates will be considered for promotion into:
- Assistant Store Manager
- Store Manager
Advancement is based on performance, reliability, and leadership potential.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Ability to work outdoors and perform physical labor
- Must comfortably lift 50 pounds repeatedly
- Forklift and equipment operation experience preferred (training provided)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to travel between store locations with reliable transportation.
- Must pass a drug screen***
