Oak Summit Learning Academy is seeking a loving, dependable, patient, and experienced Lead Infant Teacher to provide high-quality care and early learning experiences for infants in our program.
The Lead Infant Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, responsive, and developmentally appropriate classroom where each infant's individual needs are respected and supported. This position requires an educator who understands that infant care involves much more than supervision—it requires intentional interaction, responsive caregiving, careful observation, communication with families, and consistent attention to health and safety.
The Lead Infant Teacher will take primary responsibility for the organization and daily operation of the infant classroom while working collaboratively with classroom assistants and administration.
The Lead Infant Teacher will:
- Provide warm, responsive, and individualized care to infants throughout the day.
- Maintain direct and appropriate supervision of children at all times.
- Develop and implement developmentally appropriate infant activities and experiences.
- Encourage early language, sensory exploration, fine and gross motor development, social-emotional development, and cognitive growth.
- Talk, read, sing, play, and actively engage with infants throughout the day.
- Follow each infant's individualized feeding, sleeping, and care schedule.
- Properly prepare, label, store, and administer bottles and food according to program procedures.
- Complete diapering and toileting-related care using appropriate sanitation procedures.
- Maintain accurate daily records of bottles, meals, diaper changes, naps, activities, and other required information.
- Follow all safe-sleep practices and applicable infant sleep requirements.
- Conduct and document required infant sleep checks.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary classroom, including toys, equipment, feeding areas, diapering areas, cribs, and commonly touched surfaces.
- Observe infants for developmental progress, changes in behavior, illness, injuries, or other concerns and appropriately communicate observations.
- Develop positive and professional relationships with parents and families.
- Communicate children's daily routines, accomplishments, needs, and concerns appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
- Prepare lesson plans and maintain required classroom documentation.
- Maintain an organized, welcoming, age-appropriate infant classroom.
- Work collaboratively with administration and other staff members.
- Provide appropriate direction and leadership to classroom assistants.
- Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, and training.
- Follow all Oak Summit Learning Academy policies and procedures and applicable North Carolina child care requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should meet applicable North Carolina child care requirements for the position.
Preferred qualifications include:
- North Carolina Early Childhood Credential or qualifying early childhood education coursework.
- Associate Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
- Previous professional experience working specifically with infants strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of infant growth and development.
- Knowledge of safe-sleep practices and infant health and safety procedures.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain required certification.
- Ability to successfully complete applicable criminal background and health requirements.
- Willingness to complete required professional development and continuing education.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Pay: $14.50 - $16.00 per hour
