Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear by understanding their prescriptions, lifestyle needs, and personal preferences
- Dispense spectacle lenses and fit eyewear frames accurately, making adjustments for comfort and style
- Conduct optical quality checks to ensure precise fabrication of eyewear
- Perform eye measurements including pupillary distance and vital signs as needed for accurate prescriptions
- Manage retail sales transactions using an electronic medical system while providing excellent customer service
- Maintain detailed medical records in EMR/EHR systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
- Support clinic operations by adhering to aseptic techniques, health regulation policies, and medical coding standards for billing purposes
Skills
- Strong knowledge of optometry principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye care
- Experience with optical laboratory procedures including spectacle lens dispensing and eyewear frame adjustment
- Familiarity with retail sales processes and EMR systems
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations, including pediatrics and senior care clients
- Understanding of health regulation policies such as HIPAA, state healthcare regulations, and clinical confidentiality policies
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations related to optical prescriptions, and retail transactions
- Experience in medical billing, medical coding, or clinic experience is a plus for supporting administrative functions
