In-Home Respite Care Worker

Job Summary
Odyssey Parenting is seeking compassionate, dependable, and qualified In-Home Respite Care Workers to support children and adults with developmental, behavioral, emotional, or personal support needs.
In this position, you will provide temporary care and supervision in the client’s home, allowing parents and primary caregivers time to rest, attend appointments, manage responsibilities, or focus on other family needs.
This role involves more than basic supervision. In-Home Respite Care Workers help ensure that each individual remains safe, engaged, comfortable, respected, and supported while following established routines, family preferences, and individualized care instructions.

Responsibilities
- Provide safe, attentive, and individualized respite care in the client’s home
- Supervise children or adults according to their individual needs, routines, and support plans
- Follow family instructions, household expectations, schedules, and approved care strategies
- Engage clients in recreational, educational, sensory, social, and age-appropriate activities
- Support communication, emotional regulation, independence, and daily living skills
- Assist with meals, snacks, hygiene routines, and other approved care activities when required
- Respond calmly and professionally to behavioral or emotional challenges
- Respect each client’s dignity, privacy, personal choices, cultural identity, and family preferences
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Complete service notes, time records, incident reports, and other required documentation accurately
- Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, supervisors, and members of the client’s support team
- Report safety concerns and suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with mandated reporting requirements
- Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to provide dependable and consistent care
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Degree in a field relevant to the position, such as psychology, social work, child development, education, special education, behavioral science, human services, sociology, counseling, nursing, or a related discipline
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Ability to successfully complete and maintain a criminal background check and any required fingerprinting or employment clearances
- Ability to provide services independently in private family homes
- Strong communication, observation, documentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient, respectful, and professional during challenging situations
- Ability to follow written care plans, family instructions, and established household routines
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to maintain client and family confidentiality
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license may be required depending on the assignment
- Willingness to complete all required Odyssey Parenting orientation and training
Applicants who do not meet the degree, CPR and First Aid, or criminal background-check requirements will not be eligible for placement.
Preferred Experience
Previous professional or practical experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
- Respite care
- Direct support services
- Developmental disability services
- Autism support
- Behavioral support
- Childcare
- Special education
- Social services
- In-home care
- Community-based support
- Mental health services
- Family support services
Experience supporting individuals with developmental, intellectual, behavioral, emotional, or communication-related needs is strongly preferred.
Compensation
This position pays $21.00 to $25.00 per hour.
Starting pay will be determined based on relevant experience, education, professional training, certifications, availability, and the requirements of the assigned client or family.
Schedule
Available assignments may include:
- Weekday shifts
- After-school hours
- Evening shifts
- Weekend shifts
- Recurring weekly schedules
- Short-term respite visits
- On-call opportunities

Physical Requirements
Physical requirements vary by assignment. Employees may be required to sit, stand, walk, bend, participate in recreational activities, assist with mobility, or provide limited physical support.
Any assignment-specific responsibilities and physical requirements will be reviewed with the employee before placement.
