New England Jewish Academy, an ECC-12th-grade school in West Hartford, CT, is looking for a full-time Director of Teaching and Learning, a key position that answers directly to the Head of School. We are a close-knit group of educators in a small school who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of our students. We are looking for someone who is patient, caring, and has a love for education.
The Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for maintaining academic standards, ECC-12. The Director models and acts in alignment with NEJA’s mission, vision, and core values. The ideal candidate is a team player with strong interpersonal skills who is committed to helping build a strong school that empowers all students with the academic, character, and life skills they need to succeed, and partners with teachers to support teaching and learning. We seek a Director who is committed to working with determination, integrity, and purpose. All responsibilities will be carried out in coordination with and under the supervision of the Head of School.
Responsibilities:
The Director of Teaching and Learning will:
o Coordinate and lead all academic improvement efforts
o Review, revise, and oversee the execution of the curriculum in General Studies
o Support differentiation in all classes
o Plan and deliver schoolwide professional development activities
o Coordinate student placements
o Compile and submit required state and federal reporting
o Arrange mentoring for new teachers, as required
o Supervise and evaluate teachers
o Oversee the learning center and participate in all IEP meetings
o Oversee exam schedules, including AP exams, and create midterm and final schedules
o Facilitate and oversee the execution of school learning-related policies
o Participate in hiring new staff
o Review report cards each quarter
o Review exams and teacher materials
o Participate in administrative meetings
o Participate in grade meetings
o Participate in the new student recruiting process, as needed
o Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
