Job Description
Are you looking to build a career in engineering, construction, or land surveying? We are seeking a motivated, hard-working Entry-Level SUE & Survey Field Technician to join our growing field crew. In this dual-focused role, you will receive full on-the-job training. You will assist with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) to find underground pipes, while also working as a Survey Assistant to map boundaries and topography. No prior experience is required—just a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a love for working outdoors.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Utility Locating (SUE): Assist lead technicians using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and electromagnetic locators to find underground utilities.
- Operate Vacuum Excavation: Safely handle vacuum hoses and air lances to carefully expose buried infrastructure (potholing).
- Assist the Survey Crew: Carry and set up surveying equipment, including prisms, GPS rods, total stations, and data collectors.
- Mark and Stake Sites: Drive survey stakes, place flags, and apply field paint to mark utility locations and boundary lines.
- Perform Physical Site Labor: Manually dig test holes, clear brush or vegetation obstructing survey lines, and lift heavy manhole covers.
- Maintain Gear & Vehicles: Clean, calibrate, and organize tools, surveying instruments, and company trucks daily.
- Ensure Site Safety: Set up traffic cones, signs, and safety barriers around active roadways and construction zones.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 0+ years of experience. Backgrounds in construction, landscaping, farming, or outdoor labor are valued.
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to obtain utility locating certifications as required
- Ability to obtain safety certifications as required
- License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required to operate company field trucks).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, walk several miles a day over uneven terrain, and stand for long periods.
- Work Environment: 100% outdoor work. Must be willing to work in extreme heat, cold, and rainy conditions.
- Travel: Ability to travel overnight or for multi-day out-of-town projects if required.

Pay: $15.00 - $23.00 per hour
