Aircraft Rescue Firefighter Apprentice
Milwaukee County – General Mitchell International Airport
Hourly Range: $15.28 – $19.03
Position Summary: Serves as Firefighter Apprentice Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. This is a career development program. While in this position the Apprentice wil complete the following courses; State of Wisconsin Firefighter 1 and 2, National Registered EMT-B, Basic ARFF, ICS 100.200, 300, 700 and the Joint Training Fire Academy. Upon completion the Apprentice will advance into FF/EO position
Position Responsibilities:
- Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF): Serves as Firefighter Apprentice ARFF; inspect vehicles and equipment to the most advantageous position during aircraft emergencies; deploy hoselines to perform firefighting, rescue, resupply, and perform salvage operations. Repair/refill firefighting equipment.
- Emergency Medical Response: Respond to medical emergencies and provide care to airport patrons and/or employees.
- Equipment and Supply Maintenance: Maintain all assigned emergency response equipment in good working condition. Report any out of service equipment and facilitate repair by maintenance personnel.
- Perform Inspections: Perform inspections of ARFF vehicles, buildings, structures, fuel facilities, and fuel vehicles for hazards.
- Participate in training and instruction: Participate in training evolutions. Complete all required training within pre-established timelines. Complete proficiency training as directed
- Facility Maintenance: Maintain quarters and surrounding areas in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition.
- Other Duties as assigned: Provide information for reports and perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Current Resident of Wisconsin
- WI Driver’s License
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 18 years of age
- A physical exam that meets National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards will be required.
License:
- Firefighter I Certification highly desired.
Additional Job information:
- This is a 40 hour 12–18-month program to transition into a Firefighter/ Equipment Operator position.
- Firefighter I Certification highly desired.
