Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments to ensure optimal oral health.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) while adhering to infection prevention protocols and radiation safety standards.
- Conduct patient assessments by measuring vital signs, reviewing medical histories, and evaluating oral health status.
- Educate patients on proper dental care practices, including brushing, flossing techniques, and preventive measures tailored to pediatric dentistry when applicable.
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to maximize efficiency and patient comfort.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for accurate documentation of patient visits, medical records, and treatment plans.
- Maintain strict infection control standards through aseptic techniques, sterilization of dental equipment, and adherence to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to perform dental hygiene procedures.
- Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings with familiarity in dental terminology and equipment.
- Proficiency in EHR/EHR management systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with medical coding is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of infection prevention management, healthcare infection control practices, and HIPAA compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction, patient education, and team collaboration.
- Ability to perform dental x-ray procedures safely while maintaining proper aseptic technique.
- Knowledge of anatomy relevant to dental care and medical terminology for accurate documentation review and patient assessment.
