We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Laboratory Assistant II to support laboratory operations through specimen processing, patient registration, order entry, customer service, and quality assurance activities.
As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will play an integral role in laboratory services by ensuring specimens are accurately processed, handled, and delivered for testing. You will support patients, providers, and laboratory staff while maintaining compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Receive, process, label, centrifuge, aliquot, transport, and store patient specimens.

Register patients and enter laboratory orders into the hospital information system.

Maintain laboratory and customer supplies while fulfilling supply requests.

Demonstrate knowledge of specimen collection, handling, and processing requirements.

Process pathology and reference laboratory specimens as appropriate.

Assist with patient registration and third-party reimbursement requirements.

Utilize hospital and laboratory information systems, including downtime procedures.

Schedule Pathologists, Histotechnicians, and Transportation Representatives as needed.

Support bone marrow collection and processing activities.

Train new staff members and assist with departmental onboarding as needed.

Answer customer calls and maintain exceptional customer service relationships.

Maintain and clean laboratory equipment, including refrigerators and centrifuges.

Document specimen quality issues and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Follow infection prevention, safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards.

Maintain accurate filing, charting, and report distribution processes.

Communicate workload updates and pending assignments to incoming staff.

Perform phlebotomy when competency requirements have been met.

High School Diploma or GED required.

Two (2) years of laboratory or patient care experience required.
Substitution:

Current students pursuing a degree or certification in a science-related field, such as Nursing, Medical Technology, Pre-Med, or a related clinical discipline, may substitute education for up to two years of the required experience.

Knowledge of laboratory procedures and specimen handling.

Experience working in a healthcare or hospital setting.
