Transit Adjudication Bureau Hearing Officer
This position is not eligible for teleworking. The selected candidate is required to work on site and must report to their assigned work location.
The Transit Adjudication Bureau (TAB) Senior Hearing Officer conducts fair, impartial, and timely administrative hearings related to Notices of Violation issued under MTA Rules of Conduct. The Hearing Officer evaluates evidence, applies applicable rules and procedures, and issues decisions and orders in accordance with applicable statutes, rules, policies, and procedures
This position is not eligible for teleworking and requires on-site attendance.
Must work a minimum of four (4) days per month, or as otherwise required by operational needs.
Conduct fair and impartial administrative hearings.
Review testimony, evidence, and case records.
Apply the applicable MTA Rules of Conduct and all applicable laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
Issue timely written decisions and orders.
Ensure due process and procedural fairness.
Participate on appeal boards, as assigned.
Complete duties outlined in TAB Operations Manuals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced environment.
Strong judgment, attention to detail, and decision-making skills.
Proficiency with TABIS, Microsoft Office, Windows, LexisNexis, and related systems.
Public sector legal experience, particularly within New York City or New York State government.
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, interview, and written assessment.
All selected candidates will be subject to a full background investigation that includes employment and education. Discrepancies may lead to dismissal.
Subject to statutory appointment by the NYCT President.
Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.
According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).
Final salary is determined by experience, skill set, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
