POLICE OFFICER – MUNICIPAL CODE ENFORCEMENT

Monday–Friday Schedule | City Hall Assignment | Lateral Transfers Welcome
The City of Hartselle is seeking an APOSTC-certified law enforcement officer for a specialized Municipal Code Enforcement assignment based at City Hall.
Lateral transfers are encouraged to apply. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced law enforcement officer looking for a consistent Monday–Friday daytime schedule while continuing to use their law enforcement skills in a community-focused role.
The position works under the direction of the Director of Development with assignment made by the Police Chief.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and enforce City ordinances involving businesses, properties, construction sites, signs, nuisance abatement, solid waste, abandoned vehicles, and other code violations.
- Conduct inspections and follow up on reported violations.
- Educate residents, businesses, contractors, and property owners regarding City requirements and compliance.
- Issue citations and initiate court action when appropriate.
- Maintain case documentation and prepare cases for Municipal Court.
- Testify in Municipal Court and, when necessary, Circuit Court.
- Assist with Municipal Court security and Bailiff duties.
- Respond to citizen and business questions and complaints regarding City codes.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current APOSTC certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years of law enforcement experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Alabama driver's license or ability to obtain one and remain insurable.
- Ability to maintain required APOSTC and firearms certifications.
- Ability to meet applicable physical requirements for an APOSTC refresher course or lateral transfer.
Previous municipal code enforcement experience is preferred but not required.
