We’re seeking a dedicated Grounds & House Assistant to help maintain the beauty, functionality, and hospitality standards of Avalon’s main house, guest houses, gardens, and surrounding grounds. ABOUT THE POSITION
As a Grounds & House Assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the landscaped grounds and gardens around Avalon Plantation’s main house, guest houses, and outbuildings. This position plays an important role in preserving the beauty and design of the property while ensuring a welcoming and well-maintained environment for family and guests.
You will also assist with indoor house upkeep, guest preparation, seasonal décor, and property activities as needed.
You will also be responsible for:

Performing daily early morning inspection of landscaped grounds and guest housing areas to identify maintenance needs.

Cleaning, repairing, and addressing items found that need attention or correction.

Mowing, trimming, pruning, application of fertilizer, herbicide, and insecticides, raking lawns and garden beds, pressure-washing walkways, and other tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Performing cleanup activities following mowing and landscaping operations, including blowing, sweeping, and debris removal.
Chopping, splitting, and stocking firewood for guest homes throughout the winter season.

Assisting with the planting, fertilization, weed management, harvesting, and preservation (including canning) of on-site summer and winter vegetable gardens.

Safely operating UTVs, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and other groundskeeping equipment.

Performing routine preventative maintenance and care of groundskeeping equipment and tools.

Maintaining organization and cleanliness of the groundskeeping shop and assigned work areas.

Safely using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.

Assisting with irrigation and sprinkler system adjustments, repairs, and operations.

Supporting seasonal property décor and guest activities coordinated by the Homes & Hospitality Manager.

Assisting with main house and guest house preparation and upkeep, including cleaning, laundry, ironing, bedmaking, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and polishing silver and brass.

Assisting with food preparation, meal service, dishwashing, and guest services as needed.

Supporting overall property operations through additional duties assigned by management.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
-
A high school diploma or equivalent.
-
Four (4) or more years of directly related groundskeeping, landscaping, hospitality, or property maintenance experience.
-
Working knowledge of turfgrass management, ornamental horticulture, pruning techniques, fertilization, weed and pest management, and landscape best management practices.

Ability to safely operate groundskeeping equipment and tools.

Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail.

This position requires operation of vehicles, and you’ll need to possess a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. Your driving record will need to meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance provider.

You’ll need to present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire pursuant to federal law.

Operate UTVs, mowers, trimmers, and other groundskeeping equipment.

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The position may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, high or precarious locations, fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals associated with gardening, lawn maintenance, and cleaning.
The employee must remain alert and aware of potential hazards while working. The position may require work in remote areas.
This role requires availability for nights, weekends, and holidays, particularly during peak guest seasons from November through March. Extended workdays exceeding eight hours may occasionally be required.
