Café Supervisor / Barista (Full-Time, M–F, Day Hours)

We're a small, owner-operated café looking for someone we can count on to keep our second café location running the way it's meant to run. This is a hands-on barista role first, supervisory role second — expect roughly 90% of your time behind the bar, working alongside other team members and running the machines, with about 10% on training, ordering, and overseeing operations.
Schedule & Hours of Operation
- Academic year: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM
- Summer: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–2:30 PM
- Closed on all federal holidays, plus roughly two weeks off during Christmas break
- Evening & weekend availability may be needed June–July for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, where we're the primary snack vendor at the Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre
- Occasional coverage help may be needed at our other location

Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso drinks, and our food/retail menu with consistent quality and speed
- Manage cash handling and POS transactions accurately using Square
- Maintain food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling in compliance with health regulations
- Keep the café clean and organized throughout the shift — counters, equipment, seating area, and back-of-house
- Delegate tasks and help manage labor costs — sending people home early during slow periods or calling in extra help for last-minute catering orders
- Train new team members on preparation, POS use, and café procedures
- Handle customer problems and issues directly, resolving them on the spot and keeping the café atmosphere positive
- Place orders and manage inventory/stock levels
- Take and execute catering orders from start to finish
- Provide general oversight of café operations, especially when owners are not on-site
What We're Looking For
- Previous barista experience — solid espresso and drink prep skills are a must
- Comfortable working independently and making decisions without a manager on-site
- Reliability and consistency are a must
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong communication skills with teams and owners
- Basic math skills for cash handling and register accuracy
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Leadership instincts — someone who can train and set the tone for how the café runs
