Under general supervision, this position is a front-line provider of services and is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of the Town’s traffic control devices and equipment.

Maintains the Town’s signs, lighting, and pavement markings; installs and repairs street signs, waterborne and thermoplastic pavement markings, outdoor area lighting, and RRFBs.

Places and removes barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirements.
- Provides the Traffic Operations Superintendent with status reports and advises on projects and tasks related/assigned to the Traffic Services Division.

Services and maintains assigned equipment and makes minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on related equipment such as checking/servicing fuel, oil, and coolant levels; tire pressure and general appearance; takes necessary steps to bring equipment up to operating standards; prepares and maintains usage records.

Installs, removes, and services equipment and tools designated for use by the Traffic Services Division in coordination with various Town programs and outside agencies.
- Participates in the Town’s snow mitigation efforts on all snow events; operates single axle and tandem dump trucks with plows.
- Responds to natural and man-made disasters by performing traffic maintenance duties as required.

Assists the Utility Locate Program in the location of underground traffic and drainage facilities.

Assists Traffic Signal Technicians in the repair and maintenance of traffic signals, signal luminaires and illuminated street name signs as necessary.

Complies with and ensures compliance with all Town and Departmental values, policies, procedures, and philosophies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range: $24.27-$28.52/hour
Full Salary Range: $24.27-$32.76/hour
Technician II
Hiring Range: $26.21-$30.80/hour
Full Salary Range: $26.21-$35.39/hour
Technician III
Hiring Range: $27.72-$33.26
Full Salary Range: $27.72-$38.81

Tools & Equipment
Requires use of general office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, and related software. Use of specialized tools or equipment may also be necessary, including but not limited to technical devices, mechanical tools, heavy equipment, machinery, public-safety-related items, or other industry-specific systems. If required by the position, the employee may operate a personal or Town-owned vehicle.
General and Sensory Requirements
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls. Duties may also require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs or ladders, and maintaining balance. The employee must be able to talk and hear effectively, both in person and over the phone, and must be capable of operating a vehicle if required by the role. Vision requirements include consistent near and far visual acuity, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus to allow a broad field of vision.
Heavy Physical Demands
This position requires sustained and demanding physical activity. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently and more than one hundred (100) pounds occasionally with assistance
Environment
Physical presence onsite is required. Work is primarily performed in outdoor field settings. The noise level varies depending on activities or location. This position occasionally involves work in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, wind, or precipitation. Employees in this position may be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, or airborne particles, work in proximity to moving mechanical parts or machinery, and handle potentially hazardous materials. The employee will occasionally be required to work at heights up to forty (40) feet and must be comfortable working adjacent to moving vehicular traffic.
