This leadership role is pivotal in overseeing safe manufacturing finish processes, attaining excellence in product quality, meeting production & shipping goals and providing servant leadership to the finishing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong manufacturing leadership experience, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to build and develop a strong team in a fast-paced environment. Prior wood finishing experience is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor operators to ensure all safety policies and procedures are being met for finishing room and processes.
- Monitor quality of work performed by operators and take action if defective rate goes up.
- Monitor employee production and attendance reports to ensure performance and attendance standards are being met and take appropriate action as necessary.
- Monitor daily work schedules and assign tasks to ensure customer expectations are being met and make adjustments as necessary to include overtime.
- Communicate production and management objectives, technical problems and personnel issues to all shifts.
- Communicate technical problems and make recommendations for their resolution to the engineering staff.
- Identify root cause of defects using root cause analysis and problem solving tools to include 5 Whys
- Suggest permanent corrective action for quality issues and make recommendations to process repairs to Quality Control or Engineering.
- Review department staffing and make personnel decisions on staffing to include, employee promotions as well as interview and hire new employees.
- Complete annual performance appraisals and review with employees.
- Develop ongoing performance coaching for staff; recommend disciplinary action if needed and record in personnel file.
- Train Leads and employees.
- Consult with vendors on tooling, machinery and miscellaneous supplies in order to maintain relationships and answer questions.
- Attend outside meetings, seminars and trade shows to stay current with industry information.
- Ensure SQDCP boards are up to date and is used to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure solvent reclaiming is taking place and appropriate documentation.
- Ensure area of responsibility is cleaned daily and practice 5S program.
- Order department supplies to include preparing purchase order requisitions.
- Oversees proper labeling and condition of hazardous waste containers.
- Oversees and inspects hazardous waste storage area.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment, with at least 1-2 years formal supervisory experience.
- LEAN manufacturing experience.
- Ability to become medically certified to use N95 respirator
- Strong in MS Excel
- Finishing experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of 5S.
- Strong Problem-Solving and Root Cause Analysis Skills

Hiring range: $55,082 - $72,479/ year.
Salary commensurate with experience.
