Responsibilities
- Assist orthodontistsduring various procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize efficiency.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental materials, and ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly in accordance with aseptic techniques.
- Take digital dental X-rays and medical imaging, including 3D scans when applicable, while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems.
- Provide comprehensive patient education on orthodontic care instructions, oral hygiene practices, and post-treatment protocols.
- Support infection control protocols by following strict sterilization procedures and maintaining a clean clinical environment.
- Collaborate with the dental team to ensure smooth clinic flow by handling administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and updating medical documentation.
Requirements
- Valid EFDA (Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary) or EFODA (Expanded Functions Orthodontic Dental Auxiliary) certification with current licensure. Applicants without one of these certifications will not be considered.
- Prior experience in dental assisting, especially within pediatric dentistry or orthodontics, is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners confidently and safely.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Experience with chairside assisting in general dentistry is advantageous.
