Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Shear Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for operating industrial shearing equipment to accurately cut sheet metal and other materials according to precise specifications. Your expertise will ensure high-quality production, safety compliance, and efficient workflow. Responsibilities
- Operate shear machines and related equipment such as press brakes, CNC laser cutters, plasma cutters, and stamping presses to cut sheet metal and fabricated parts with precision.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing specifications to set up and adjust machinery accordingly.
- Program CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines for cutting operations, ensuring accurate dimensions and quality standards are met.
- Perform tooling setup, calibration, and maintenance on shear and CNC machines to optimize performance.
- Conduct quality inspections of the machine, and make sure that all fluid and all other components of the machine stay in proper function and quality.
- Follow safety standards in production environments by adhering to proper lockout/tagout procedures, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a clean work area.
- Collaborate with team members on fabrication projects involving welding, assembly, or sheet metal fabrication tasks to meet production deadlines.
Skills
- Proficiency in operating shear machines, press brakes, CNC laser cutting systems, plasma cutters, CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, stamping presses, and other machining tools.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings (GD&T), and manufacturing specifications.
- Experience with CNC programming and tool setup for machining operations.
- Knowledge of safety standards in manufacturing environments including proper use of hand tools, cranes, measurement devices like micrometers and calipers.
- Ability to perform precision measurement for quality control purposes during machining processes.
- Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication techniques including plasma cutting, stamping, welding, and assembly processes.
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations related to machining tolerances, and blueprint interpretation.
- Mechanical blueprint reading skills combined with an understanding of tooling setups for consistent production quality.
- Effective use of hand tools and fabrication equipment in a manufacturing setting.
