The Bus Attendant is knowledgeable of the school routes, remains alert to monitor the welfare of the student passengers, and communicates behavior issues and/or student conditions with the bus driver. SUMMARY: The Bus Attendant is knowledgeable of the school routes, remains alert to monitor the welfare of passengers, and communicates behavior issues and conditions with the bus driver.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regularly communicates with passengers and bus drivers.

Enforces school system student conduct rules while on route; reports problems to bus driver.

Adheres to District policies and procedures including local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Attends safety, training, and informational meetings.

Maintains familiarity with school bus routes.

Remains alert to monitor welfare of passengers.

Conducts emergency evacuation drills, including use of exiting via emergency door and assisting in opening and closing the service door.

Always adheres to FERPA regulations and maintains confidentiality.

Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid driver's license is required.

Two (2) years working with children is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to work in a friendly manner with coworkers and students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.
