Golf Cart Staff – Fredericksburg Country Club

Position Summary
The Golf Cart Staff is an important part of the Golf Operations team and is responsible for providing members and guests with a welcoming, professional, and efficient experience from the moment they arrive until they leave the Club. This position assists with golf carts, golf bags, the practice facilities, tournament operations, and the overall cleanliness and organization of the outside golf operation.
Cart Staff members are expected to provide excellent customer service, take initiative, maintain a professional appearance, and help ensure the golf operation is prepared and organized throughout each shift.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet members and guests promptly and professionally upon arrival.
- Assist with unloading and loading golf bags from vehicles.
- Stage golf bags and carts appropriately for upcoming tee times.
- Learn and use members' names whenever possible.
- Provide directions and basic information regarding the golf course, practice facilities, and daily golf operations.
- Anticipate member and guest needs rather than waiting to be asked.
- Maintain a friendly, professional, and service-oriented attitude at all times.
Golf Cart Operations
- Prepare and stage golf carts for daily play.
- Ensure carts are clean, properly stocked, and presented professionally.
- Clean carts thoroughly following each round.
- Remove trash and personal items and report any lost-and-found items.
- Check carts for visible damage or mechanical issues and immediately report concerns to the Professional Staff.
- Return carts to their proper storage location and connect carts to chargers as required.
- Maintain an organized and clean cart staging and storage area.
- Follow all Club procedures regarding safe operation of golf carts.
Golf Bag Operations
- Load and unload golf bags from carts.
- Properly store member golf bags when applicable.
- Keep bag storage areas clean, organized, and accessible.
- Handle all member and guest equipment carefully.
- Assist members and guests with transporting clubs between vehicles, carts, the Golf Shop, and practice facilities.
Practice Facility
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional practice facility throughout the day.
- Pick and collect range balls as directed.
- Wash and properly distribute range balls.
- Keep practice areas stocked with golf balls and other necessary supplies.
- Maintain appropriate placement of bag stands, baskets, signs, and other practice equipment.
- Pick up trash, broken tees, baskets, and other debris.
- Assist with opening and closing the practice facility each day.
Tournament & Event Operations
- Assist the Professional Staff with preparation for tournaments, outings, and Club events.
- Stage carts according to tournament pairings and starting assignments.
- Place scorecards, cart signs, rules sheets, pencils, and other tournament materials as directed.
- Assist with contest signs, coolers, registration areas, and other event setup.
- Help ensure carts and golf bags are properly organized following shotgun events.
- Assist with breakdown and cleanup following tournaments and events.
Facility Appearance & Cleanliness
- Maintain the cleanliness of all outside golf operation areas.
- Regularly empty trash and remove debris from staging areas.
- Keep cart storage, bag storage, range areas, and workspaces organized.
- Ensure equipment and supplies are returned to their designated locations.
- Take ownership of the appearance of the Golf Operations area throughout the shift.
Opening & Closing Responsibilities
Staff members may be responsible for opening or closing duties depending on their assigned shift.
Opening responsibilities may include:
- Preparing and staging carts for the day's tee times.
- Setting up the practice facility.
- Preparing bag storage and staging areas.
- Checking the cleanliness and organization of Golf Operations areas.
- Reviewing the day's tee sheet, tournaments, outings, and special events.
Closing responsibilities may include:
- Cleaning and storing all remaining golf carts.
- Connecting carts to chargers.
- Collecting, washing, and storing range balls.
- Closing and organizing the practice facility.
- Emptying trash and cleaning work areas.
- Organizing bag storage and cart storage areas.
- Ensuring all equipment is properly secured before leaving.
Expectations & Service Standards
All Golf Cart Staff members are expected to:
- Arrive on time and ready to work in the proper Club uniform.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance.
- Keep personal cell phone use to designated break periods unless authorized by a supervisor.
- Remain productive throughout the entire shift.
- Communicate professionally with members, guests, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Work as a team and assist other Golf Operations staff when needed.
- Take initiative when something needs to be cleaned, organized, restocked, or addressed.
- Treat Club property and member equipment with care.
- Follow all Club policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Notify a supervisor promptly of member concerns, accidents, damaged equipment, or operational issues.
Qualifications
- Strong customer-service attitude and willingness to interact with members and guests.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned responsibilities without constant supervision.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to safely lift and carry golf bags and other equipment.
- Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the golf schedule.
- Previous golf or hospitality experience is preferred but not required.
