Studio Assistant — Part-Time Hello Huckleberry
Locations: Summit & Maplewood, New Jersey Position: Part-Time Studio Assistant Schedule: Weekday and/or weekend availability; weekend availability strongly preferred
About Hello Huckleberry
Hello Huckleberry is a children's art and creative play studio with locations in Summit and Maplewood, NJ. We offer art classes, workshops, open studio experiences, camps, and birthday parties designed to give children a welcoming place to make, play, explore, and create. We're an art studio first, but we believe creativity often begins through play, curiosity, experimentation, and simply giving children the freedom to explore. The Position We're looking for energetic, dependable, and personable Studio Assistants to join our team. This is a hands-on position. Studio Assistants help keep the studio running smoothly while creating a warm, organized, and engaging environment for children and families. Depending on the day, you may be assisting with an art class, preparing materials, welcoming families, helping facilitate a birthday party, resetting the studio, or engaging directly with children during creative play. We're especially interested in people who are comfortable taking initiative. You should be able to walk into the studio, recognize what needs attention, and help without needing constant direction.
Responsibilities
Welcome children and families into the studio in a warm and professional manner Assist instructors with children's art classes, workshops, camps, and special programs Help facilitate birthday parties and weekend events Engage actively with children during art-making and creative play Prepare, distribute, and organize art materials Assist children with projects while allowing room for independence and experimentation Help set up and reset tables, activity areas, and creative stations Keep materials, shelves, counters, and common areas organized throughout the day Perform light studio upkeep, including tidying, light vacuuming, wiping work surfaces, and taking out trash as needed Help maintain a safe environment and immediately communicate safety concerns to lead staff Assist with transitions between activities, classes, parties, and open studio sessions Follow studio procedures for attendance, opening/closing, and daily operations Work collaboratively with instructors and other studio staff Represent Hello Huckleberry professionally when interacting with parents, caregivers, and guests
Who We're Looking For
You may be a great fit if you are: Dependable and punctual Friendly, energetic, and comfortable interacting with children Patient and attentive Naturally organized Comfortable working in an active, sometimes messy creative environment Able to take direction while also working independently Comfortable initiating tasks rather than waiting to be told what to do Professional when communicating with parents and families Comfortable working as part of a small team Willing to help with both creative activities and the everyday work required to maintain a beautiful studio
Experience
working with children is strongly preferred. Experience in art, education, childcare, camps, museums, children's programming, hospitality, or customer service is a plus. You do not need to be a professional artist. An appreciation for art, creativity, and working with children is more important. Physical Requirements This is an active studio position. Team members should be comfortable standing for extended periods, moving throughout the studio, bending or kneeling to assist children, resetting furniture and activity areas, and performing light cleaning and organizational tasks.
Availability
We are hiring part-time team members for our Summit and Maplewood locations. Weekend availability is especially important because of birthday parties, workshops, and other studio programming.
Additional weekday opportunities may also be available depending on our class and program schedule. Candidates who can reliably maintain a consistent schedule are strongly preferred.
What We Value At Hello Huckleberry,
we want children to feel comfortable being curious. We don't expect every child to make the same thing or approach creativity in the same way. Our staff should be present, engaged, encouraging, and willing to meet children where they are while maintaining a safe and thoughtfully organized studio.
We are looking for people who genuinely enjoy working with children and understand that creating a great studio experience comes from the small things: welcoming a family, helping a hesitant child get started, noticing when an area needs attention, resetting materials thoughtfully, and leaving the studio ready for whoever walks through the door next.

Please submit your resume through Indeed along with a brief introduction telling us about yourself, your availability, and any relevant experience working with children, art, education, camps, events, or customer-facing environments.
