Job Overview:
We are seeking a part time Animal Care Technician to join our team to assist with animal care, enrichment, and other shelter duties
Responsibilities
- Clean and feed shelter animals, following shelter protocols for safe handling and prevention of disease transmission.
- Provide social enrichment and exercise to shelter animals under the direction of the Director of Animal Care Services.
- Observe the physical condition and behavior of animals and report anything unusual or concerning to medical staff.
- Assist with general duties such as dish washing, laundry, and maintaining a safe, clean and organized shelter.
- Assist with dispensing of medicines for animals in treatment and in preparation for adoption.
- At all times demonstrate courtesy to visitors, attention to detail in cleaning, professionalism in dress and behavior.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Education and Training:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Experience in animal handling or pet care (preferred)
- Experience working in a kennel environment (preferred)
Skills and traits:
Good health, no allergies to animals; ability to establish rapport easily with people and animals; integrity; loyalty; physical and emotional stamina; attention to detail; desire to work as a team.
Conditions:
Busy work day with multiple demands from people and animals; some heavy lifting; occasional emotionally intense situations.
Schedule:
Hours available range from 12 to 32 hours per week. Shifts are generally 7:30 am to 12 pm, or 1 pm to 5:30 pm. Some weekend shifts are needed.
