Job Description:
The Director of Fitness is responsible for implementing standards of exercise, wellness, and senior health at the community and overseeing accurate documentation concerning programming and participation in the wellness program. This position designs and implements an all-inclusive wellness program that addresses the components of physical fitness and health related to the geriatric community.
Job Summary:
- Responsible for the planning and implementing of the fitness activities, exercises, and wellness programs as directed by the General Manager.
- Assists in a variety of exercise, educational, recreational, and social functions to residents alongside the Activities Department.
- Develop and oversee departmental policies, procedures, and budget management
- Design and implement the INSPIRE Wellness Program on campus for residents.
- Provide leadership and support to all wellness events. Be a good role model for wellness always.
- Oversee and maintain fitness equipment and wellness facilities. Schedule any maintenance problems to be resolved efficiently
- Hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate assigned staff in the Wellness Center, recruit and oversee all contracted fitness instructors.
- Stay current on health and wellness knowledge to share with residents.
- Lead community exercise classes.
- Conduct orientation for all residents, wellness assessments, exercise prescriptions for residents,
- Maintain accurate records of staff certificates.
- Monitor daily operations of the Wellness Center and INSPIRE health and wellness activities around campus.
- Work with other departments to create and integrate the wellness philosophy throughout the community.
- Maintain good communication skills with all departments and residents s about wellness activities.
- Create, schedule, and present health and wellness workshops throughout the year for residents.
- Maintain confidentiality of medical information and/or contact information.
Qualifications:
- Club and/or hospitality industry experience (resort-style facilities) preferred
- Relationship servicing skills and training/presentation skills
- Word, Excel and PowerPoint basic proficiency
- Budgeting and analysis skills
- Knowledge and expertise in individual and group training protocols and standards; current fitness trends; and anatomy/physiology (a plus but not required)
- Experience in managing and achieving a budget
- Experience in developing and delivering educational workshops and seminars
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; great listening skills
- Comfortable with striking up conversations with members, with approaching members at the club, with providing advice and assistance, with calling members on the phone, and with handling and resolving member complaints
