Material Verification / Field Inspector – Columbia, MD
Environ-Civil Engineering (ECE) is hiring a full-time Field Inspector to support water utility and municipal infrastructure projects in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.
What You’ll Do
- Visit homes and properties to inspect and verify water service line materials
- Use tablets, GPS tools, ArcGIS, and digital forms to record field data
- Schedule and manage homeowner appointments and follow-up visits
- Take photos, verify addresses and meter locations, and collect field measurements
- Observe lead service line replacement work and ensure contractors follow requirements
- Document completed work and report safety concerns or field issues
- Coordinate with contractors, plumbers, and key staff
- Communicate professionally with homeowners and the public
- Maintain accurate inspection records and daily logs
- Assist with customer outreach and other field tasks as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Proficient with tablets, GPS devices, and field software
- Strong communication and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently outdoors in different weather conditions
- Able to bend, kneel, carry light equipment, and enter basements or meter areas
- Flexible schedule, including some evenings and Saturdays
Preferred Experience
- Field inspection or construction observation experience
- Experience with water utilities or lead service line replacement programs
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish or other commonly spoken languages)
Work Environment
This is a field-based position involving daily travel throughout residential neighborhoods. Work includes outdoor inspections and indoor access to basements and meter pits while following all safety and quality procedures.
