Senior Estimator – Commercial Construction (Greater Boston)
A well-established general contractor in the Greater Boston area is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join its estimating team. This is a confidential search; the company's identity will be shared directly with qualified candidates.
This is an office-based opportunity for a senior-level estimating professional with a strong background in public agency and institutional work who is looking to join a respected regional builder with a strong pipeline of public and institutional projects.
About the Role
The Senior Estimator will play a key role in preparing competitive and negotiated estimates for public agency and institutional construction projects, working closely with the Chief Estimator and preconstruction team throughout the bid process.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for public agency and institutional construction projects
- Support bid strategy development and proposal preparation
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor pricing and scope
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, architects, and owner representatives
- Collaborate with operations teams to ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to construction
- Stay current on public agency procurement requirements and market pricing trends
Requirements
- 15+ years of construction estimating experience
- Strong public agency experience required, including familiarity with DCAMM, MBTA, and K-12 school construction procurement processes
- Strong local subcontractor network and deep knowledge of the Greater Boston construction market
- Prior experience with a CM/General Contractor is required, with a clear understanding of the contractor side of the business
- Established relationships with union contractors
- Background in commercial, institutional, and/or public sector project types; candidates with predominantly multifamily estimating experience will not be a strong fit for this role
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $165,000–$210,000, commensurate with experience
- Annual performance bonus, typically paid in December, targeted at 3–4.5%
