As a Chemotherapy Infusion Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in supporting Veterans through complex hematology, oncology, and infusion care at the VA Iowa City Health Care System. This position offers the opportunity to combine clinical skill, patient education, care coordination, and teamwork in a highly meaningful specialty setting. By helping Veterans and their families understand treatment plans, navigate care transitions, and access the services they need, you will contribute directly to quality outcomes, continuity of care, and a Veteran-centered experience grounded in compassion, collaboration, and evidence-based nursing practice.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Deliver specialized nursing care to Veterans receiving hematology, oncology, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and infusion services.
- Assess Veterans for actual or potential nursing needs, complications, and changes in condition throughout the treatment process.
- Coordinate nursing care across the continuum to support seamless transitions, timely access, and continuity of hematology and oncology services.
- Educate Veterans, families, and caregivers on treatment plans, self-management strategies, and care expectations.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hematology and oncology team to evaluate referrals, discuss patient acuity, and support individualized care planning.
- Facilitate clinic operations within the Chemotherapy Infusion suite to promote safe, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery.
- Review and follow up on laboratory results and diagnostic testing to support ongoing treatment coordination and continuity of care.
- Partner with other VA facilities and outside agencies or health care organizations to coordinate necessary hematology, oncology, and infusion-related care.
