Position Overview:
The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently moving, launching, and storing boats using heavy equipment, ensuring smooth daily operations. This role requires experience with forklifts, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in an outdoor marine environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Boat Handling:
- Safely operate marina forklifts to launch, retrieve, transport, and store boats
- Inspect boats for damage before and after handling, reporting any concerns to management.
- Ensure all boat handling meets company standards for customer satisfaction.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Conduct daily inspections of forklifts and other heavy equipment, reporting maintenance or repair needs.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks, including checking fuel, oil, and hydraulic fluid levels.
- Follow proper usage and storage procedures for all equipment, adhering to safety protocols.
- Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety and environmental policies, maintaining a clean and hazard-free work area.
- Utilize proper lifting techniques and safety gear, and follow OSHA and marina safety guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety checks on lifting areas and equipment, promptly addressing hazards.
- Customer Interaction:
- Provide courteous and professional assistance to marina customers, ensuring a positive experience during boat launch and retrieval.
- Collaborate with marina staff to deliver seamless service, including assistance with dock and yard operations as needed.
- Additional Marina Support:
- Assist with dock and facility maintenance including but not limited to pressure washing, light repairs, landscaping, ect
- Assist with fueling operations, and helping boaters with docking and securing vessels.
- Support seasonal and storm preparations by securing equipment and facility assets.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to event support, yard maintenance, and general facility upkeep.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
- At least 1-2 years of forklift experience, preferably in a marina, boatyard, or similar environment.
- Familiarity with boating and marine safety protocols (preferred).
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs
- Strong attention to detail, safety orientation, and effective communication skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.73 - $17.01 per hour
