The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, oversees job cost accounting, manages month-end and year-end closing activities, supports budgeting and forecasting, and maintains compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable tax regulations. The Senior Accountant works closely with project managers, operations, and executive leadership to provide financial insight that supports profitable project execution.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Maintain the general ledger and reconcile all balance sheet accounts.
- Monitor job costing, project profitability, labor costs, and material expenses.
- Analyze project budgets versus actual costs and identify variances.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow reporting.
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
- Coordinate annual audits and provide supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and federal, state, and local tax requirements.
- Review payroll allocations and labor burden for installation crews.
- Monitor inventory accounting for windows, doors, hardware, and installation materials.
- Recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal controls.
- Support management with financial analysis and operational reporting.
- Assist with sales tax filings and contractor-related reporting requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in construction, home improvement, manufacturing, or specialty contracting is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and construction accounting principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software (such as Sage 300, Foundation, QuickBooks Enterprise, Vista by Viewpoint, or similar ERP systems).
