Job Summary
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (Cardiopulmonary) provides comprehensive respiratory care to patients across the lifespan, including infants, pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations. In accordance with physician orders and professional assessment of patient conditions, this role administers a variety of respiratory therapies and treatments following established clinical standards and best practices.The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for evaluating patient responses, monitoring respiratory status, and collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This position plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while supporting the mission and clinical excellence of The New Roseland Community Hospital.
1. Provides respiratory therapy (conventional/routine) to patients, assist physicians as needed or requested.
2. Performs a variety of routine and advanced respiratory therapy to include proper delivery of USN, Incentive Spirometry, and Aerosol Therapy, pulmonary bedside screening and complete pulmonary testing. Oxygen delivery, pre and post peak flow measurements and metered dose inhaler (M.D.I) therapy.
3. Administers nebulizer medications as prescribed.
4. May perform critical care modalities, as ventilator care, CPAP/PEEP, airway pressure monitoring and manual resuscitation, wearing parameters.
5. Performs arterial blood gases, and co-oxyhemoglobin measurements.
6. Recognizes medical problems and report to physicians. Apply emergency protocols as needed or alert supervisor.
7. Instruct patients regarding procedure to be performed; answers any questions they may have calm any anxieties.
8. Administers cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in emergency situations.
9. Maintain established department policies, procedures, objective, CQI, safety environmental and infection control.
10. Maintains equipment by ensuring proper operating condition, cleaning, and sterilization. Maintain stock level of supplies. Order medications as needed. Maintenance and repair of equipment. Alert manager to malfunction of equipment. Alert manager to malfunction of equipment. Document maintenance/repair.
11. Maintains department records, reports, and files as required. Completes necessary paperwork which may include filing, charting, and documenting treatments in patient’s file. Responds to incoming inquiries related to in and outpatients report and deliver reports as requested.
12. Attend meetings as required. Consults with interrelated departments as required.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
14. Performs quality controls on blood gas and co-ox analysis daily. Performs maintenance as required.
15. Performs daily charges for patient billing and enter or reprint orders as required using the hospital computer system.

- Graduate of an approved two-year School of Respiratory Care or equivalent with current credentials as Registered or Certified Respiratory Therapist.
- Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist with successful completion of the examination offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- (2-5) Respiratory Therapist experience
- Demonstrated experience supporting regulatory compliance, accreditation, or survey readiness strongly preferred
- Active and Valid State of Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner License required.
