About the Role:
The HR & Payroll Specialist is responsible for day-to-day administration and operation of core HR processes and payroll that support employees throughout the employee lifecycle. This includes, but is not limited to, ownership of payroll processing, maintaining employee records, supporting benefits and leave administration, onboarding, and offboarding. This role offers the opportunity to quickly expand into benefits, HR systems, recruiting, compliance, and employee relations while becoming a key member of our HR team.
Working closely with the Head of HR, this role serves as a trusted partner to employees and managers while helping build and support the day-to-day HR function. You'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across payroll, HR operations, employee experience, and the continued growth of our HR programs.
This is a full-time, on-site position based at Hennessey's headquarters in Sealy, Texas (77474), located just west of Houston on Hwy I-10.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll
- Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.
- Review time records, payroll changes, and bonus payments.
- Maintain payroll records and support year-end payroll activities.
- Run payroll in QuickBooks in the interim while transitioning to a new Payroll and HCM system(s).
- Support payroll questions and resolve discrepancies.
Employee Records & HR Systems
- Process new hires, promotions, transfers, pay changes, and terminations.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation within the payroll and HR system.
- Prepare employment documents and maintain employee files.
- Support the implementation of a new Human Capital Management (HCM) system by assisting with employee data validation, payroll testing, and process improvements.
- Serve as a key HR resource for the HCM system, helping maintain system accuracy, support end users, and continuously improve HR and payroll processes after implementation.
Employee Lifecycle
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding.
- Administer benefits enrollments and qualifying life events.
- Administer leave programs and maintain required documentation.
HR Support
- Assist with employee relations matters and policy administration.
- May support workers' compensation and other HR programs as needed.
- Prepare employment verifications and other HR documentation.
Projects & Communications
- Assist with HR communications.
- Assist with HR and company policy generation.
- Support HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Preferred Background & Required Skills:
- 2+ years of direct payroll processing experience independently processing payroll.
- Experience directly supporting core HR administration/HR operations.
- QuickBooks payroll experience a plus, not required.
- Experience maintaining employee records.
- Experience using Payroll/HRIS/HCM systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Takes ownership, follows through, and enjoys staying productive in a fast-paced environment where priorities change and work moves quickly
- Organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
