POSITION: Dispensing Optician

TRAVEL REQUIRED: satellite office
Job Summary: This individual is responsible for selling eyeglasses in accordance with prescription, selling contact lenses in satellite office, making recommendations for proper fit frame, lens material, and design.
Education and Experience:
1. High School diploma or equivalent required. Certification by American Board of Opticianry preferred.
2. 1-2 years of retail optician experience preferred.
3. Understanding of the anatomy of the eye as well as normal, abnormal vision and perception.
4. Computer and accurate data entry skills.

4. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
5. Ability to interact with physicians and staff and participate as a team member with individuals inside and outside the department.
Responsibilities:
1. Provides patient education regarding lens materials, products and designs.
2. Performs prescription analysis such as interpreting and transposing.
3. Provides recommendations to patients regarding proper eyeglass frame selection.
4. Designs complete eyewear products by incorporating frame design elements, lens materials and optics with patient’s prescription and lifestyle requirements.
5. Performs eyeglass frame adjustments and repairs. Includes proper alignment of frame, comfortable fit, functional vision and instructions on proper wear and care of eyeglasses.
6. Performs accurate measurements of lens power, pupillary distance, multifocal segment height, lens base curve, vertex distance, and prism power.
7. Orders custom lens products from wholesale optical laboratories, monitors process, post charges and bill insurance when needed.
8. Orders contact lenses for patients.
9. Verifies lens prescriptions of ordered lenses and check for accuracy.
10. Assists in the return of authorized merchandise to manufacturers.
11. Designs, arrange and maintain product displays throughout the day.
12. Monitors product inventory levels.
13. Maintains inventory of office supplies and other materials necessary to properly run the department.

Pay: From $22.00 per hour
