We develop high-end bioinformatics tools that empower researchers and clinicians to analyze complex genomic data with ease and accuracy. At Golden Helix, we’re not just about creating top-notch software—we’re committed to providing exceptional training and support to our customers worldwide. Join our team headquartered in Bozeman, Montana, and help shape the future of genetic research!
Job Summary:
Golden Helix builds VarSeq Suite: a unified platform for NGS variant analysis, ACMG/AMP interpretation, and customizable assessment reports. VarSeq automates NGS workflows from VCF or FASTQ through annotation, filtering, classification, and reporting. It supports both germline (ACMG) and somatic (AMP) workflows, draws on monthly-curated annotation sources including ClinVar, gnomAD, OMIM, CIViC, and Golden Helix CancerKB™, and is developed under an ISO 13485:2016-certified quality management system. Over 400 institutions in more than 50 countries run Golden Helix software.
In this part-time, flexible, remote-friendly position, you will join the product team to perform software testing, verification, and validation (V&V) activities for the VarSeq Suite. You will confirm that the software behaves correctly, that outputs match industry standards and expected scientific outcomes, and that quality is maintained as features and annotation sources evolve. This role suits a scientist who combines domain expertise in genomics with rigorous attention to detail and clear technical writing.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform before-and-after confirmations of issues or changes to the software.
· Test new features: understand the intent and ensure outputs are correct, match industry standards, and align with expected outcomes.
· Run manual test cases and user acceptance tests to detect deviations and document test outcomes.
· Maintain and update test documentation, reports, and summaries.
· Build and validate new tests: identify example cases and test variants, and identify and review benchmark datasets.
· Assist in data curation, testing, and review for new and updated annotation sources.
· Summarize and report ongoing test and quality efforts to the rest of the team.
· Other duties as directed.
Qualifications & Experience:
· PhD, or MS with equivalent experience, in a relevant field (bioinformatics, molecular genetics, computational biology, or related).
· Experience in one or more of the following areas: diagnosing rare diseases, precision medicine in cancer, NGS bioinformatics, and variant interpretation and curation.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Technical proficiency.
Skills & Competencies:
· Linux command-line and system administration experience (for reviewing automated test outputs and troubleshooting changes or failures).
· Experience working within a regulated environment or quality procedures (Golden Helix operates an ISO 13485 QMS).
Measurements
The Software Test & Validation Scientist will be measured on:
· Quality and thoroughness of testing and documentation.
· Accuracy in detecting deviations and confirming that software outputs match expected scientific and industry standards.
· Clear, reliable reporting and summarization of test and quality efforts.
