Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and attentive Resident Service Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide direct support to residents, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being within a behavioral health or psychiatric care setting. Your energetic approach will help foster a secure and nurturing environment, assisting residents with daily activities, monitoring their condition, and responding effectively to their needs. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges and substance use disorders.
Responsibilities
- Observe and monitor residents’ behavior, mental state, and physical health to ensure safety and stability
- Assist residents with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, mobility, and medication management under supervision
- Implement behavior management strategies and de-escalation techniques to prevent crises and promote positive interactions
- Maintain accurate medical records, documentation of patient observations, and incident reports in compliance with facility protocols
- Respond promptly to emergencies using first aid, CPR, and crisis intervention skills while coordinating with medical staff or emergency responders as needed
- Support psychiatric care plans by engaging residents in therapeutic activities and providing emotional support
- Enforce safety protocols such as physical restraint techniques when necessary to protect residents and staff during behavioral crises
Experience
- Prior experience working in acute care settings or psychiatric hospitals is highly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of behavioral health concepts, crisis prevention, and de-escalation techniques
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or mental health conditions, including substance use disorders
- Familiarity with medical terminology, patient monitoring procedures, and medication administration practices
- Background in psychiatric patient care or behavioral health hospital environments is advantageous
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients experiencing mental health challenges and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications such as crisis intervention or physical restraint techniques are a plus
