The State of Connecticut Military Department (CTMD) is accepting applications for an Electronics Technician 1 based at the Governor William A. O'Neill Armory located at 360 Broad Street in Hartford, CT.

We are a unique dual-status agency, having both federal and state missions. The CTMD’S primary public responsibilities are:

(1) To support the CT National Guard enabling the National Guard to provide ready units for Federal or State requirements;

(2) To train, resource and coordinate state emergency response assets, and;

(3) To plan for and protect citizens and their property in times of war, terrorism, invasion, rebellion, riot or disaster.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing basic installation, maintenance, repair and modification of electronic and electromechanical equipment and devices.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs and/or assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, modification and calibration of electronic equipment such as two way radio, scientific research electronic devices, traffic signal equipment, recorders, amplifiers, power supplies and other types of analog and digital equipment containing transistors, integrated circuits, microprocessors, nuclear radiation detection equipment, computer equipment, etc.;
Uses standard and specialized test equipment in isolating malfunctions and defective components;
May prepare written or oral reports;
Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of
- methods of maintenance, operation and repair of electronic equipment and devices; knowledge of analog, digital and logic functions;
- integrated circuits including microprocessor units;
- use of oscilloscopes and signal generators;
Skills
- interpersonal skills;
- oral and written communication skills;
Ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance, repair and servicing of electronic equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training in electronics or a related field may be substituted for the General experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years for an Associate's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following experience and training is preferred:

2 years experience as an elections technician;
Experience working with intrusion detections systems, access control systems, CCTV systems;
Experience using Microsoft products (i.e., O365, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams);
Available for both intra-State and interstate travel for Federal or State mandated training as the need arises;
Possess and retain a valid drivers license. Follow DAS General Letter 115 Policy for Use of Motor Vehicles to Conduct State Business;
Experience with basic electronic/electrical theory;
Must successfully pass a Federal background investigation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
Incumbents in this class may be required to attend technical seminars or schools.
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be exposed to high voltage electricity; may be exposed to extreme weather conditions if required to work outside.
