School Bus Driver
Job Overview:
Elite School Staffing is seeking responsible, safety-minded School Bus Drivers for the 2026–2027 school year. This position plays a vital role in the daily operations of our schools by ensuring students are transported safely, reliably, and respectfully. The ideal candidate is punctual, attentive to safety, and enjoys working with children of all ages.
Key Responsibilities:
Transportation & Safety:
- Safely operate a school bus in accordance with Michigan state and federal regulations.
- Drive assigned routes and adhere to scheduled pick-up and drop-off times.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and readiness.
- Maintain all emergency exits and safety equipment in proper working order.
- Ensure the bus has appropriate fuel levels before each route.
Student Supervision & Conduct:
- Monitor student behavior while on the bus and enforce established safety and conduct rules.
- Create a welcoming and secure environment for all riders, including students with special needs.
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations, including accidents and evacuations.
- Administer basic first aid as needed and follow emergency protocols.
Reporting & Communication:
- Immediately report all accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues to the transportation supervisor.
- Communicate respectfully with students, parents, school staff, and dispatch.
- Maintain accurate records of routes, mileage, inspections, and student conduct incidents.
- Return the bus to its designated lot at the end of the day and ensure it is properly secured.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with “P” (Passenger) and “S” (School Bus) endorsements
- Successful completion of the Michigan School Bus Driver Education course
- Clear federal background check, including fingerprinting
- Pass Michigan Department of Education physical examination requirements
Skills & Attributes:
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional, patient, and dependable
- Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations and the ability to maintain composure under pressure
- Familiarity with Detroit/Redford area streets and neighborhoods
- Free from adverse effects of medication, alcohol, and drugs while on duty
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
- Frequently required to sit for extended periods, use hands and foot controls, climb stairs, bend, and kneel
- Must be able to lift and push/pull up to 50 pounds
- Must demonstrate physical ability to execute emergency evacuations
- Vision requirements include distance vision, peripheral vision, night vision, and depth perception
- Exposed to loud noise, outdoor weather conditions, and traffic-related hazards
