Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Heavy Haul & Wide Load Driver to join our dynamic transportation team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating specialized heavy-duty trucks designed to transport oversized and wide loads across various routes. Your expertise in handling complex cargo, adhering to safety regulations, and navigating challenging routes will ensure timely and secure deliveries. Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers equipped for heavy haul and wide load transportation, ensuring compliance with all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load, secure, and unload freight such as oversized equipment, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, hazardous materials, and other specialized cargo using manual handling techniques and appropriate equipment like forklifts when necessary.
- Plan routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery times while considering road restrictions for heavy loads.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, including checking load security, brake systems, tires, lights, and safety equipment.
- Maintain accurate documentation for each shipment, including delivery logs, inspection reports, and compliance records related to hazardous materials regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and clients regarding delivery schedules, route changes, or potential issues during transit.
- Ensure all driving activities adhere strictly to FMCSA regulations, hazardous materials handling protocols, and safety standards to promote a safe working environment.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on heavy haul and wide load transport.
- Proficiency in operating manual transmission trucks and specialized equipment such as dump trucks or roll-off trucks.
- Strong knowledge of logistics cargo handling techniques for freight including freight on flatbeds or tanker units.
- Skilled in route planning using GPS navigation tools for efficient delivery of oversized or hazardous loads.
- Familiarity with safety procedures related to dangerous goods and hazardous materials regulations.
- Ability to load & unload cargo safely using manual handling skills or forklift operation when applicable.
- Excellent driving record with a solid understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
