Genius Academy is a long-standing elementary and middle school afterschool learning center serving families in San Jose, Cupertino, Saratoga, and West San Jose for nearly 30 years.
We help students build strong academic foundations in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension while also developing confidence, curiosity, responsibility, and disciplined study habits.
We are looking for an English Language Arts teacher who wants to help elementary and middle school students become stronger readers, clearer writers, and more confident learners.
The Role
We are hiring a part-time English Language Arts teacher to teach small-group classes for elementary and middle school students. Classes typically include approximately 5–15 students and focus on:
- Writing
- Grammar
- Reading comprehension
- Vocabulary
- Critical thinking
- Academic confidence and study habits
This is an in-person, afterschool teaching role. Additional tutoring hours may be available for teachers who are interested and a strong fit.
Schedule
Typical teaching availability needed:
Monday–Thursday, approximately 2:30 PM–6:30 PM
We can consider candidates available 2–4 days per week, but preference will be given to teachers who can commit consistently for the full school year and 4 days a week.

What You’ll Do
As an English Language Arts teacher, you will:
- Teach small-group English classes using provided curriculum, textbooks, and classroom materials
- Prepare lessons and activities that help students build real reading and writing skills
- Support students at different ability levels within the same classroom
- Track student progress, strengths, and areas for improvement
- Provide feedback to students that is clear, encouraging, and actionable
- Communicate student progress to parents and the Genius Academy team
- Maintain a positive, structured, and safe classroom environment
- Help students develop discipline, focus, confidence, and love of learning
- Bring your own ideas, creativity, and teaching judgment to make classes engaging
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree completed or currently in progress
- Experience working with children in a formal or informal educational setting
- Strong written and verbal English skills
- Ability to work in person in West San Jose, CA 95129
- Reliable availability during afterschool hours
- Commitment to a consistent schedule for the school year
Preferred:
- Experience teaching writing, grammar, reading comprehension, or vocabulary
- Classroom management experience
- Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students
Compensation
Hourly rate: $25–$50/hour, depending on experience. Final rate will be based on relevant teaching experience, English Language Arts background, classroom management strength, and schedule commitment.
Additional tutoring hours may be available.
