Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead the firms tax compliance and tax planning services. The Tax Manager will manage client engagements, oversee preparation and review of federal and state tax returns, provide technical tax guidance, and mentor tax staff. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent client communication skills, and prior experience in public accounting or a comparable professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage tax engagements from planning through delivery, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely completion
Oversee the preparation, review, and filing of federal and state tax returns for corporations, S corporations, nonprofits, individuals, and trusts, including Forms 1120, 1120S, 990, 1040, and 1041
Perform complex tax research and apply conclusions to client specific compliance and tax planning matters
Develop and deliver proactive tax planning strategies aligned with client goals and current tax regulations
Respond to tax notices, examinations, and inquiries from tax authorities and coordinate with external advisors when necessary
Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff by reviewing workpapers and providing coaching and performance feedback
Maintain strong client relationships and clearly communicate tax positions, risks, and recommendations
Manage engagement workflows, budgets, and deadlines to meet firm and client expectations
Ensure compliance with professional standards, firm policies, and applicable tax laws
Stay current on changes in federal and state tax regulations and assess their impact on clients
Identify opportunities to improve tax processes and implement workflow efficiencies and technology solutions
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Masters in Taxation or equivalent preferred
CPA license required or actively pursuing CPA certification
5 plus years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting or professional services; prior Tax Manager experience preferred
Strong experience preparing and reviewing federal and state tax returns including Forms 1120, 1120S, 990, 1040, and 1041
In depth knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements
Strong analytical, research, and problem solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
Demonstrated leadership experience, including staff supervision and mentoring
Proficiency with tax preparation software and Microsoft Excel; experience with workflow or tax provision tools a plus
Excellent client service and communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly
Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a fast paced environment
