Woodsville High School has an opening for a full-time School Nurse. Woodsville High School is a rural school, along the Connecticut River, serving approximately 225 students in grades 9-12. Please see the job description listed below: Reports to: School PrincipalJob Goal: To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.Qualifications: Hold a license as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire, as well as meet minimum requirements to hold certification with the Board of Education.Performance Responsibilities: 1.Conducts annual screenings of student vision and hearing, and other student health screenings as needed.2.Assumes responsibility for the selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care3.Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.4.Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.5.Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.6.Administers first aid.7.Visits student homes when necessary.8.Participates with school staff in developing and implementing a total school health program.9.Supervises the distribution of medication to students in compliance with School Board and State regulations.10.Advises on modification of the educational program to meet the health needs of individual students.11.Prepares and submits reports for the superintendent, the State Board of Education, and other agencies as required.12.Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with the Board policy on infectious contagious diseases and concussions.13.Advises teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects.14.Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools.15.Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum.16.Participates in and contributes to in-service training programs.17.Assists in planning the annual budget for the school health program.18.Participates in faculty meetings and serves as a member of faculty committees as necessary.19.Participates in the child study process through early identification of pupils with handicaps and interpreting significant findings of health history, physical assessment, and reports of medical consultant.20.Acts as a resource person to the professional staff when requested.21.Provides in-class teaching assistance to those teachers who request help with the presentation of materials.22.Provides direct instruction to students in the area of Health Education.23.Work closely with the Special Educator to provide comprehensive case management as needed due to a medical concern.24.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.25.Performs any other duties that may be from time to time assigned by the Superintendent, Principal, or their designee.
